Announcing the 3rd Micronesian Medical Symposium 2007
to be held on October 19-21, 2007 on the island of Guam in the
Western Pacific. The theme of the symposium is "Childhood and
Adolescence Obesity and its Complication and Impact in the Asia
Pacific Region"
You are invited to submit an abstract or poster session proposal in all
areas of childhood and adolescence obesity, with special attention to the
Asia-Pacific Region. Any aspect of research or clinical services on the
topic is welcome, including clinical innovations and promising practices
in childhood and adolescence obesity, and innovative childhood obesity
education approaches.
All accepted abstracts will be published on the 3rd Micronesian Medical
Symposium 2007 website and the Conference Booklet.
Topics to be covered during the 3rd Micronesian Medical Symposium 2007
include, but are not limited to:
1. Epidemiology perspectives special emphasis on regional culture effects
2. Understanding on risk factors
3. Treatment including randomized clinical trials
4. Prevention
5. Nutrition & weight management
6. Genetics
7. Psychosocial and behavior disorders
8. Health care policy and health economic burden
Abstracts should be no more than 500 words and must be submitted
electronically by E-mail to Dr. Safa at ssafa@ite.net and
mms3abstract@yahoo.com.
The abstract submission deadline has been extended to August 15, 2007. All
persons submitting abstracts will receive notification of the Scientific
Programme Committee's decisions no later than Sept. 1, 2007. Please
submit your abstract early to ensure prompt confirmation and processing.
The 3rd Micronesian Medical Symposium 2007 will consist of both oral and
poster presentations. Proposals should indicate which type of
presentation is preferred.
Oral Presentations are designed to present the links between research,
policy and practice, and the impact on individuals and the wider
community. Use of handouts, demonstrations and audience involvement is
highly encouraged. Reading of papers is discouraged.
Poster Presentations consist of written and pictorial material that
provide summary information about a research effort, a model service
program, or a best practice. Authors are responsible bringing their own
materials. Poster boards 5ft. x 5 ft and push pins will be provided.
Posters will be displayed during an allocated time and authors must be
present to respond to questions from delegates during this time. Authors
are responsible for hanging their poster one hour before the scheduled
poster session and removing them after the conference.
The Scientific Programme Committee will review all abstracts and make
selections based on content, objectives and relevance to the conference
themes. Clinically-oriented submissions should include such areas as
programme, purpose, treatment, rationale and outcomes. Research abstracts
should include the objective, method, results and discussion.
Acceptance of abstract submissions will be based upon the following
criteria:
(1) Quality and originality; (2) Potential significance to disciplinary
theory or application to healthcare research, policy or clinical practice;
(3) Timeliness; (4) Clarity of writing and presentation; (5) Completed or
nearly completed research; and (6) Relevance to conference themes.
1. All abstracts must include original unpublished or recently
published work. Abstracts must be factual and report significant research
findings, clinical procedures and results, or soc
ial interventions and
products.
2. The Committee reserves the right to accept, reject and allocate
abstracts for inclusion in the Conference Programme.
3. There is no limit to the number of abstracts each author may
submit. However, the maximum number of oral presentations at the
conference is three per delegate.
4. There is some Travel Grant funding available for presenters from
the Pacific Islands whose abstracts are accepted. Otherwise, all
presenters are responsible for their own expenses, including registration,
travel, hotel and any other costs incurred by their conference
participation.
5. The Scientific Programme Committee reserves the right to suggest
co-presenters and to combine submissions.
6. Presenting authors are responsible for the transport and storage
of their presentation materials.
7. It is the responsibility of the presenting author to ensure
accuracy of content, spelling and, presentation since the abstracts will
be published as submitted.
8. Accepted abstracts may be published in the "Final Programme and
Book of Abstracts," the Conference website, and CD-ROM. Selected
abstracts may be published in manuscript form in a conference Proceedings.
All copyright will be transferred to the Organisers. The Conference
Organisers reserve the right to reformat abstracts to ensure publication
uniformity.
9. Conference delegates must be made aware of any affiliation or
financial interest that may affect the speaker's presentation(s). All
speakers must provide information on any conflict of interest. Disclosure
statements must be provided by speakers to delegates at the Conference.
- Language: All abstracts must be submitted in English, the language of the conference
- Author's name(s), Title(s) and affiliation(s)
- Institution (with addresses, telephone, facsimile and E-mail addresses)
- Title of paper: Use both upper and lower case, in bold text.
- Abstract: A total of 500 words of text; font must be Times New Roman, size 11 point. All typing should be single-spaced
- Laptop computers, LCD projectors, and screens will be available, and proposal should indicate what technical support is required.
- Indicate if proposal is for oral or poster presentation.
- Indicate if funding is needed.
